Early Deficit Too Much as Palmyra Falls to Southern Boone
After an exciting season-opening win earlier in the day, Palmyra ran into a hot start from Southern Boone and fell 12-5 in the second game of the Southern Boone baseball cluster.
Southern Boone struck quickly, putting up six runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run. The Eagles added another run in the second and two more in the third to build a 9-0 lead.
Palmyra answered in the third inning. Raeson Miller and Max Heimer each reached, setting up Bryant Horstmeier for a two-run single to get the Panthers on the board and cut into the deficit.
The Panthers continued to battle back. In the fourth, Brodie Webb came around to score to make it 9-3. Palmyra added two more runs in the fifth when Logan
Kroeger doubled to spark the inning, and Webb delivered a two-run single to bring the Panthers within 9-5.
Southern Boone, however, added three more runs in the sixth to pull away and seal the win.
Palmyra finished with a solid offensive showing, collecting eight hits. Webb and Horstmeier led the way with two hits apiece, and each drove in two runs.
Despite the loss, Palmyra showed resilience throughout the game, continuing to
compete after the early deficit in the second contest of the season-opening day.
